Tonnellerie Claude Gillet was founded in 1966 by Claude Gillet, in the village of Saint Romain, in the heart of the vineyards of Burgundy on the famous Cote d’Or. Since then, Claude Gillet has been joined by his children who work alongside him along with 20 employees. Owing to their absolute dedication to tradition and quality the cooperage has developed to a stage where they are producing around 10,000 barrels per annum, always with a sense of responsibility ensuring they do not grow beyond their capability to utilize only their own oak which they can guarantee has been air dried on their property for between 24 – 36 months.
The increase of their wood stocks, the extension of their buildings and the employment of skilled workers, have enabled them to extend the sale of their production all over the world.
Working with the most prestigious estates their advertising is simple and mainly based on the tasting results through the world.
Producing both Bordeaux and Burgundy barrels, although based in Burgundy they are equally proficient in producing barrels suitable for the Bordeaux and Rhone grape varieties. However, in New Zealand I have to say their success with the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grape varieties has been exceptional.
